NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, have taken the digital art world by storm. While the term "NFT" is relatively new, its roots in digital scarcity trace back to colored coins in 2012. Colored coins represented digital assets on the Bitcoin blockchain. Fast forward to 2017, and we see the birth of CryptoPunks - a collection of 10,000 unique pixel art characters that pioneered the concept of NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain. Since then, NFTs have evolved into a multi-billion dollar industry, from digital art to virtual real estate and beyond. This exciting journey from colored coins to CryptoPunks is just the beginning of the NFT revolution.
