n Harry Potter, how is it that Harry turned out quite okay after all the neglect and bullying he went through at the Dursleys? Wasn't he supposed to be more emotionally damaged? Because JKR was writing by 20th-century British children’s fantasy lit standards, ala Roald Dahl, not real life ones. The kids are fearless and unaffected by things that would normally traumatize them for life because that’s the way it went in those type of books back then. We were never meant to look too far into it. The issue stems from the books growing progressively more mature and the characters acting more like real people as they did, which put the earlier books into question.
