I T A P of a cute little visitor I often see around the lawn and road inside my company grounds. This magpie shows up now and then like it belongs here. It trots along with quick, tiny steps, hopping between the dry grass and the pavement. The black and white feathers pop against the muted ground, and the wings flash a faint blue sheen when it turns. It pauses at the curb, tilts its head, and then continues on like it has somewhere important to be. I spotted it on my way to the cafeteria, and it instantly lifted my mood. That busy little walk felt like a small hello in the middle of the day.
