AEON just dropped something that could quietly change how digital services work. It’s called x402, and it’s a protocol that enables micropayments at scale. Think fractions of a cent for an API call, or a tiny bit of compute. Why it matters: until now, machine-to-machine payments were clunky. Subscription models dominate. If your bot wants to query a service 100 times a day, it’s either a flat fee or nothing. x402 changes that. AEON revived the long-forgotten HTTP 402 status code (Payment Required) and turned it into an on-chain standard. Every request can now carry its own payment, verifiable, immediate, and programmable. This is the foundation for a real agent economy. Machines can now transact without asking humans for permission. It’s subtle, but powerful.
