I have an exclusive new story up in the MIT Technology Review. It's about California's power grid operator becoming the first statewide system to use AI to help manage its outages. The California ISO is set to announce a deal to use the new Genie software from OATI at a major utility conference tomorrow. But I got the scoop ahead of time: https://www.technologyreview.com/2025/07/14/1120027/california-set-to-manage-power-outages-with-ai/

It really is wild how analog a lot of power facilities still operate. Even though they say they're going to use Generative AI to make decisions for them... to me, it sounds like they're actually using AI/ML to injest all the data to power those decisions... which to me seems more robust, but I'll be interested to see if they are actually using generative AI/LLMs or not.
