Can Bitcoin be used effectively in smart contracts?
Bitcoin’s native scripting language is limited compared to Ethereum’s Turing-complete capabilities, but upgrades like Taproot have enhanced its smart contract potential. Taproot allows more complex conditions and improved privacy while enabling multi-signature transactions. Although Bitcoin remains primarily a store of value and means of payment, developers are exploring Layer-2 solutions and sidechains to incorporate more advanced smart contract functionality. This evolution aims to expand Bitcoin’s use cases, particularly for conditional payments and multi-party agreements. While it still lags behind Ethereum in programmability, Bitcoin’s enhanced security and decentralization make it an attractive option for applications where trust and immutability are paramount.
