Multi-wallet farming inflates surface metrics—unique addresses, quests completed, daily actives—without deepening real demand. It dilutes discovery, crowds genuine contributors, and forces teams to overspend on anti-sybil defense rather than product. Yet the effect isn’t uniformly negative: farmers stress-test funnels, find UX cracks, and provide early liquidity for price discovery. The long-term impact hinges on whether the design channels effort into durable behaviors—building, governance, referrals with retention gates—versus click-to-claim vanity tasks. When rewards tie to cohort stickiness, fee generation, or verified social graphs, the marginal wallet adds cost but little value and becomes self-selecting out. Airdrops aren’t broken; shallow incentive design is. Treat wallets as identities with histories, not as one-time addresses, and drift toward value accrual, not address inflation.
