Taste Buds

Japanese curry is one of those things that when done right is one of my favorite dishes.  Unfortunately outside of Japan most Japanese curry is made from a boxand are underwhelming.

Tonight I checkd out Curry Hyuga which has a few Bay Area locations and is always packed for good reason.  After a 45min wait we ordered and were quickly served some amazing Japanese curry with crispy potato croquette and karaage chicken topped with a runny egg and seeved with pickles and coleslaw.  

Finished off the night with a  exceptional Mango Pomelo Saga from Hui Lau Shan which hit the spot after dinner and could have warranted its own post.  

Love how there are shopping centers packed with people in the Bay Area there for one reason, good food.   This didn’t exist 10 years ago but I’m here for it.

Mitsuwa. It’s a chain (not too many) and there are a ton of in California.

RIP to the Japanese curry rice from that East Hanover, New Jersey hole-in-the-wall. 

One bite of that thick, complex curry over perfect rice could turn the day around. The Japanese owner (rare in NYC area) is retired now. 

I’ve found other spots, but my favorite version of that comfort food is gone.

Nice, I’ll take a look!  Seems familiar but I haven’t been to too many japanense curry places outside Japan
