The idealist is largely a timid withdrawal from life. He automatically avoids life because he can't stand the competition and crowding of that kind of crowd; he has no strength to struggle, so he calls this struggle vulgar; he is vain, and because his companions do not regard him with his own valuation, he comforts himself by despising his companions.
