In 1979, a gold miner in Alaska discovered the frozen carcass of a 50,000-year-old prairie bison. The researchers decided to taste it and prepared a stew from part of the animal's neck muscle. The meat turned out to be quite tough, but at the same time it had an unusual earthy taste, which some expedition members found very pleasant.
