Jack clutched the paper plan tightly as he descended the creaking basement stairs.
The world outside had begun to unravel sirens, confusion, whispers of people changing but Jack had already prepared for this moment.
Weeks earlier, when the first strange reports began circulating, he had drafted “The Plan” on a single sheet of paper.
It was simple, but absolute.
In the center of the basement sat his greatest invention: the survival orb.
A massive purple sphere he had secretly constructed piece by piece, welded together in the quiet hours of the night.
Inside it were shelves of water, canned food, batteries, tools, and a small control panel for air filtration and power.
A reinforced hatch, no bigger than a submarine door, sealed the orb from the outside world.
