A great read from @0xantidote.eth. It’s definitely something I think about in web3 and I do wonder if we might be misguided about just how much ownership we believe we have on the blockchain. As long as we use a managed service, we are giving some of it up.

The only bit I challenge/disagree with is that Appearance is a vector of ownership. I would replace that with Content. I believe that Appearance is an element of Content, but Content broadly covers the appearance and the substance, the latter which I find the far more important of the two.

Hey, thanks for the shoutout. I do agree substance is important, particularly for content and media, appearance definitely matter and/or is hard to differentiate from substance.

Oh yes, definitely. Distribution is distinct from source. 'twas always thus.

Great take, although I would challenge that even if you host your own site, you are STILL dependent on the distribution via other channels, such as X.

Also, I do think that Farcaster right now is actually likely the best solution, because it does provide you with the opportunity to tap into its distribution and customize appearance on top of it.
