spent last week deep in UN forums: ECOSOC Forum, Commission on Population and Development, UNDP, ITU and more. there were lots of discussions on ai and who builds, funds, and governs them (especially related to sdgs 6, 7, 9, 11, 17)

some hard questions: If code becomes abundant: What should get funded? How do we measure importance? Who pays for the compute that maintains the commons?

a lot of these new websites for creatives (thecosmos, are.na, zora, read.cv, etc) just seem like they’re trying (and failing) to recapture the nostalgic spirit of what tumblr used to be you don’t need to prove to us that you have good taste i believe you

At the UN Open Source Conference, I joined a breakout session on funding open source. We discussed tensions between current funding models, sustainability, and incentives with maintainers from Python Software Foundation, Processing Foundation, Linux devs, etc I brought up crypto...and things got interesting... ↴
