Is there any way or tool to bulk erase all my casts history with only one click? I loved to do that on Twitter once a year, and I would like to do it now before leaving Farcaster for a while.

I decided that I’ll uninstall Farcaster today, before going to bed. It just doesn’t feel like the social network I was imagining, one that would bring real value to society using Web3 primitives, but rather just another niche Web3 space focused on the financialization of every aspect of life. So there’s a lot of frustration coming from my own expectations, and for the past few weeks, the feed just hasn’t been enjoyable anymore. I’ll keep managing @vocdoni and occasionally checking in via the website to boost Vocdoni casts with my own account, but I don’t expect to be active anytime soon, at least not over the summer. See you soon, and have a great summer, everyone! ❤️🌴

These are just two examples, but both of these VP have potential to solve users problems and build a diverse social network that is fun to use.

Can’t you have both? I don’t understand why it’s incompatible to have a fun to use social network while promoting different values as the GAFAMX. Narrative is important. If you have something superior you should convert it in value propositions. For example: Value: Open protocol VP: Put efforts on having an excellent path to integrate the protocol in 3rd apps and boost the client ecosystem (rn, the path is inner miniapps that are the reflection of the degen userbase on Farcaster: gambling and minting) Value: Decentralization VP: Brazil State can’t just censor the protocol, come to Farcaster! I don’t see how “earn on Farcaster” could be a strong growth driver, most people earn very little, they can get frustrated, and it’s usually the same type of users who benefit the most. In fact, I can see how it might have the opposite effect.

Interesting, will take a look tomorrow with the help of AI, as I see it’s a quite technical analysis

What makes you think the market for these values is small and saturated? Is it because Bluesky has already captured a portion of it? Farcaster could have doubled down on these values by offering things people are actively seeking today: like closed communities, private (locked) accounts, personalized feeds,… features that Bluesky, for example, currently lacks.

Indeed, I saw the announcement yesterday, did they release them already?

Fair enough. Just to understand , what is the reasoning to put these values aside and boost other key differentiators like “earn on Farcaster” or “make money on Farcaster” that are not at the core values of the protocol itself? Is your hypothesis that there’s a larger market for that? Is a new market or are you trying to capture it from somewhere else?

Farcaster has some attributes and values: Open protocol, sufficiently decentralized, composability. Why shouldn’t someone respond to what’s happening in society* by highlighting those values? It would be natural for Farcaster to take the opposite stance, simply out of antagonism. We live in a society, not in a sterile operating room. *The result of a wealthy, drug-abusing, far-right individual taking control of one of the major social networks to serve their own agenda, after having lied about their intentions to make it more open

I get that. But still, starlink is a centralized worse solution than the old infra (optic fiber, for example) and should not just replace it in the places where the “old infra” doesn’t arrive. It should just be complementary. On the other hand, stablecoins can be built on top of better infra, like Ethereum, with better attributes. So imo, it’s an interesting analogy for a specific attribute (offering an alternative), but not a good analogy.

The most revealing part of today is Musk essentially admitting that buying Twitter wasn’t about making it a better and more open social network, but rather about entrenching the status quo and amplifying an authoritarian, right-wing agenda. Today opens another opportunity for Farcaster to differentiate from X and Musk. Will probably not happen.

I don’t think it’s a right analogy, starlink is terribly centralized, not universal nor neutral. With Ukraine we even saw how its right to access depends even on only one person.
