Tempo hiring Dankrad Feist is a signal that Tempo doesn’t aim to be a single entity running nodes on a cloud provider. They don’t need him for that. But, still does not prove that it is aligned with the open ecosystem at all. https://x.com/dankrad/status/1979133618254405775
On the 17th of October, the news of Dankrad Feist’s departure from the Ethereum Foundation to join Stripe and Paradigm’s Tempo travelled at the speed of light throughout Crypto Twitter. While Mr. Feist’s peers have congratulated him on the move, and have critiqued the foundation’s payment structure, the broader community has declared him a traitor to the cause of a decentralized financial system. The verdict by le peuple: “He joined a corpo chain”. But, from the mob you could hear a faint voice say in defense: “Tempo uses the EVM and its existence will be beneficial to the Ethereum ecosystem.” Herein lies the fatal flaw. https://open.substack.com/pub/ferdname/p/tempo-is-a-threat-to-ethereum
Most of zk is just research projects with a “product” attached to be able to get VC money. None of them have moat and will run to zero once their research is done. zcash is different. It has a product, it is part of the cypherpunk meme. zcash is here to stay.
Tempo will compete with Ethereum's core business. Tempo will not burn ETH or otherwise accrue value to it. Tempo does use parts of Ethereum tech and will contribute to it (mainly reth, foundry, porto, etc.) Net negative. May the better one win. https://x.com/dankrad/status/1980811989178831029
