Yeah I find I read fiction with my kindle usually before bed or on the weekends and audio books during the week at the gym or walking around. Writing summaries is such a good ritual

i don't keep track because i don't differentiate between mediums of book consumption (they are all the same to me), but I'm sure it's way more listened books than read

i have a long list of recs and i do fifo, usually i don't remember who rec'd what

What’s funny (or not funny) is I majored in Comparative Literature. I was diagnosed with ADHD senior year in college. A long sorted story beyond that but I’m a lifelong regular reader. I love it. It’s just frustrating not being as nimble as others. I’ll never catch up with the books stacking on my shelf.

That’s so impressive. I’m a lifelong reader with serious ADHD. My pace is slow. I’m a lifelong reader but it’s never come easy

a lot, it's actually not that difficult to remember stuff from the books!

my way to do so is to:
1. consume a book
2. read a couple of summaries
3. write my own summary (yabc.bdut.ch)

as simple as that!

I write summaries + use Readwise to make flashcards that I review (mostly) every day on quotes I found particularly memorable/important/profound.

in the end the only knowledge you have is the database of "if i need X it's in the place Y", unless this knowledge is applicable right now

so no, i don't take time to reflect — it's enough to write down my summary of all the books i finish

That makes sense. I understand the importance of reading, but it’s really difficult to find time. I sit at my desk all day, and I can find the answers to my questions and necessary files on the internet. The information is fragmented but mostly efficient, so I end up barely reading…

My question for you is how do you find books? The biggest issue that I have rn is that it takes too long to find good books that I for sure want to read (I’m talking fiction) so what I do is that I read everything by a certain author once I find an author that I like but I always run out 🫠

Damn! Good for you! I can’t do this any more. The highlight of my life in book reading was when at 14 I finished entire children library in my hometown and I was allowed to move up to the adult one 2years ahead and begun reading shit that I shouldn’t have 🫣
