NFTs are unlikely to become the core mechanism for digital copyright. While they enable unique ownership tracking, automated royalties via smart contracts, and provenance on blockchain, NFTs do not inherently transfer or enforce copyright rights. Ownership of an NFT typically grants only a token, not the underlying IP—copyright remains separate, governed by traditional laws. Unauthorized minting often leads to infringement disputes, and enforcement challenges persist in decentralized systems. In 2025, NFTs show promise in niche applications like music royalties and IP tokenization, but they complement rather than replace established copyright frameworks. Legal reforms and better integration are needed for broader adoption. https://www.copyright.gov/policy/nft-study/
