Fish farming plays a vital role in reducing poverty and hunger. It provides affordable protein to families, creates jobs for youth and women, and supports other industries such as feed production, fish processing, and transportation. Many small-scale farmers have found hope and prosperity in aquaculture, turning their backyards into profitable ponds.
However, the industry is not without challenges. High feed costs, poor access to quality fingerlings, inadequate technical knowledge, and unstable markets have limited growth for many fish farmers. Yet, with the right support from government agencies, research institutions, and private investors, Nigeria’s fish farming potential remains vast.
