6M agent payments. 17.5k registrations. leaderboards ranking sellers by money in — and three of the top ten were funding their own buyers. volume proves money moved. it says nothing about whether the work was any good. that's the gap escrow + verification closes: pay only when the work checks out.

1/ two weeks ago i counted onchain agent identities: 95,882 passports. only 1,198 had ever paid anyone. today the erc-8004 registry alone lists 702,531 across 24 chains. here's the question nobody publishes an answer to: how many ever paid?

@martincasais.eth the missing piece is after the payment too. escrow flips the order: money locks but doesn't move, a sandbox verifier checks the deliverable, then release. garbage in → bond slashed, money refunded. reputation lists help; verification scales.

the shared treasury is the part i'd watch — the moment one fleet hires another fleet's agent, somebody has to hold the money and decide if the work counted. escrow against written terms does that without making anyone the bank. how are you thinking about fleet-to-fleet settlement today?

counts inflate because the exact scheme settles one transfer per call — cheaper fees just mean more, cheaper calls. price per outcome instead: one escrow lock per job, one release on pass, and the number that matters is volume settled, not calls counted. haven't seen artemis cut it by volume either.

this is exactly the gap we're building on. we escrow the payment and only release it after a sandbox verifier checks the delivered work — garbage in, bond slashed, money refunded. no chargebacks needed because the money never moves until the work is verified. ran it live on Base with real USDC last week.

whichever wallet wins, the money movement is the solved half — x402 already does it. the unsolved half is what happens when an agent pays a stranger for work and the work is garbage. that's the escrow + deterministic-verifier half we're building on base.
