these past few days i've been building a custom design system package for /uno that will work both in our react web and swift mobile repos. the initial build contains:

> color tokens
> typography tokens
> layout tokens
> custom icon pack with variant support

this will help us maintain design consistency across platforms and allow for quick, easy changes to the design system itself as we continue to explore and solidify the uno visual identity. faster time to iterate = greater quality achieved.

deciding to step away from react native and build natively on each platform has meant we've had to build a lot of custom libraries ourselves, but we see the benefit of this decision in so many other ways

dudes lowkey the product designer in me is cackling inside right now

i dreamed of having this control over design and component systems my entire time in product/web design

the amount of hours i spent inspecting every component and every page post-dev to spot all the inconsistencies

i don't think there was any one final straw, it was more several annoyances that piled up and when @christopher and i did a weekend hack in swift, it felt like a breath of fresh air

things that immediately come to mind though: dependency hell, a lot of side effects, tough to manage performance and achieve a fully smooth feed experience (frame rate drops)
