Ronaldo is not world class anymore, he’s not the same player he once was, in fact he’s not been the same since 2021. That stint in the premier league did so much damage to him physically, and now playing in Saudi whilst keeping him fit, has reduced his ability against opponents that play with intensity. Nonetheless when I think about all of this, I end up questioning myself are there better options on the bench? The answer is no, Joao Felix and Ramos are way younger, have the legs to cover ground, lead the press, and are still worse. As an out and out No 9 there’s no one in Portugal who can do better than Cristiano. This was Portugal’s first real test against a side that gave it their best and they failed miserably. Nonetheless if I’m Roberto Martinez, I’m giving up on this 3 atb bs and deploying players on the basis of balance and merit. In 3 games both Pedro Neto & Conceciao have shown so much potential. One of them must start whilst the other can come off the bench to make an impact.
