1.2 On-Chain + Off-Chain Architecture
Farcaster uses a hybrid system:
On-Chain:
Only critical identity information (like FIDs and storage units) is written on-chain to preserve decentralization and security.
Off-Chain (Hubs):
Most data—like posts (called casts), reactions, and follows—are stored off-chain on independently operated servers called Hubs. These Hubs replicate and sync data, ensuring that no single party controls the network.
