Growth of the Bitcoin Lightning Network has slowed, with node activity and channel capacity plateauing. While still effective for low-fee micropayments, its adoption for cross-border settlements remains limited by UX complexity and liquidity fragmentation. In contrast, high-TPS chains like Solana offer faster finality, low fees, and broader integration with consumer apps, gaining traction for similar use cases. Solana’s growing adoption in mobile payments and remittance tools suggests a shift in developer and user preference. Unless Lightning improves scalability and usability, high-throughput chains may increasingly capture its intended utility.
