the CAS9 field is underrated and if I was to get started today in the industry, this is how I'd exploit opportunities
exploit: tool commodification
problem: CRISPR and Cas9 tools are becoming standardized. Labs hate reinventing protocols.
move: build better, cheaper, modular CRISPR kits or software tools (think CRISPR analytics, gRNA design, delivery optimization).
entry: partner with synthetic biology startups, read papers from Addgene, see what’s over-engineered or under-automated.
bonus: learn what delivery tech is hot (e.g., lipid nanoparticles vs electroporation) and build where the bottleneck is.
