Smart contracts can only act on on‑chain data, but real‑world information lives off‑chain. Oracles bridge that gap by feeding prices, weather, election results, or any external data directly into a contract. In DeFi, price oracles set lending rates, collateral thresholds, and AMM prices. Decentralized oracle networks like Chainlink add redundancy and tamper‑proof guarantees, cutting single‑point‑of‑failure risks. Without oracles, most DeFi functions would stall.
