Bot activity is a persistent challenge in airdrops, as automated scripts can create thousands of wallets to capture unfair rewards. To mitigate this, projects often design anti-sybil mechanisms such as requiring human-verifiable actions, identity checks, or proof-of-participation activities like voting or staking. On-chain analysis tools can detect patterns like clustered addresses, identical transaction behaviors, or mass wallet creation. Some projects employ reputation systems, where only users with consistent activity histories qualify. However, bot exclusion is rarely perfect; overly strict filters may also block genuine small users. A balanced approach is necessary, combining algorithmic detection with fair user verification. Projects that successfully minimize bot participation increase distribution fairness, strengthen trust, and ensure that rewards benefit authentic community members.
