i think one of the reasons why devices like the tamagotchi were loved is because they were finite and did only one thing. the more we can do on a single device, the less we actually value it. we care about our phones more than anything right now, but mostly because we’re dependent on them, not because we truly love them. we’re rarely intentional with the time we spend on them. with a tamagotchi, we had to be intentional. it asked for a specific kind of attention, in a small, closed world. that finiteness made the time feel real.🌹
