the butterfly is inspired by japan’s national butterfly, a symbol of rebirth and as these past months have felt like a personal rebirth for me, transformation sits at the core of nakama
the cherry blossoms nod to tokyo’s 1912 gift of 3000 cherry trees to washington dc, and is a symbol of friendship that survives history.
and “nakama” is a word for someone you might only see rarely, but when you finally meet irl, it feels like no time has passed at all.
