quitting an addiction is something any of us can do. but quitting means that at some point we may do it again, if we feel the need to, depending on the context.
getting freed from that addiction means we'll never feel the need to do that specific thing again, regardless of the context.
i can tell you this difference because the latter is what happened to me with smoking, and it only happened once i sought God's help. no one can get freed without Him. no one. without Him i'd still be smoking, because i've since found myself in contexts where i know i would have lit one.
one of them is being on a small terrace with my friends, me being the only one not smoking. as someone who smoked before and "quit" it would've been hard, almost impossible, to hold myself.
maybe i'd have won it once or twice but at some point i'd have submitted and lit a cigarette. so quitting is the fight that eventually gets lost, while when you are freed there is no need that comes from within anymore.🌹
