Early in my career I got asked to shoot a bunch of fashion lookbooks from small brands who were just starting out or whatever and I always regretted doing them because I would be promised to be paid in clothes and exposure or something. One shoot I spent two days on I think I was offered $150 and it took me six months to get paid half that. I swore I was never going to do one again unless it was for real money. And then one day in 2008 I was walking to the train and saw that the brand Mishka was having a yard sale. Their office was a couple blocks from my place (they didn't have store yet) and I ended up buying a hat with an eyeball on it. I started wearing that shit every day and it almost became my signature. So maybe six months later one of the dudes from Mishka that I knew a little bit hit me up to see if I wanted to shoot a lookbook for them. I asked them the budget and they said zero dollars but they would hook me up with some clothes. 1/2
