A DAO, or Decentralized Autonomous Organization, is an organization represented by rules encoded as a computer program that is transparent, controlled by organization members and not influenced by a central government. DAOs are based on blockchain technology and aim to create a consensus on how the organization should function without needing central leadership. They are autonomous in that they operate based on the rules set forth in their code, without the need for human intervention.
