Interesting election dynamic in Germany. Much can be said about the map which shows the exact border between former East and West Germany, 35 years after re-unification. In a nutshell, West Germany took over the eastern part in 1990. That wasn't limited to politics, but certainly included. The main parties which had been established in West Germany for decades never got the same level of membership, lifelong voters etc. in former East Germany. It mattered a lot during the 1990s when neonazi brutality was a huge topic. Afterwards, root causes were never addressed because there were always more urgent issues and the economy was growing. Now, this map shows the outcome of a decades-long development where the AfD can be incredibly successful with simple, populist solutions to complicated problems. That said, it should not be forgotten that they also got lots of votes elsewhere. (Split is 18% in former West Germany, 32% in East Germany.) Given that the next gov't may not be very stable, it's a huge concern.
