Origins is smaller. Lately, I've been taking the family to that one. Gen Con is larger and more frenetic. There is no comparison with the Exhibit Hall at Gen Con...it just has to be experienced. If you want a board game focus, stronger competition, and guaranteed entry into events, WBC is it.

If this had been last year, I would have been happy to join up. Gen Con conflicts with World Boardgaming Championships this year, and I prefer WBC. I'll be going to Origins, though! Any chance you'll be there?

I survived the Boundary Waters trip with my son and his friend. The Boundary Waters continues to impress me. It is like a national park just for introverts. The remoteness, exertion from canoeing and portaging tends to discourage a lot of people from it...which is a shame, because it is a pretty great experience.

I have a few dwarven forge (splurged on all of the cavern sets awhile back, since we had a 5 year campaign in the underdark). Always great to get those out. I've been doing a lot of inkarnate battlemaps lately. Still not quite the same, though...

Oh! Been awhile since I've played Hansa Teutonica. I've enjoyed it. I've played Istanbul too (even have it on my game shelf), but I admit that is another that hasn't seen play years. Kinda love the idea of a Throwback Thursday...

This trip has been on the books for a year, but I'll be heading out to the Boundary Waters again soon...this time with my son (15). We went back and forth on whether or not to do it this year (given everything else that has gone on with the family), but we're doing it.

😆 I don’t see many overbids (not without most often crashing their game), but I have seen getting stuck or without the money to bid competitively. 🤷‍♂️ Admittedly, bidding mechanics aren’t one of my favorites, but I have a few that use it that I really enjoy (Goa and Amun Re)

Under appreciated board games- whatcha got?!? I’ll start: There are a few games with bidding mechanics (Vegas Showdown, Amun Re), but this one is my favorite - Goa.

Their kickstarter did well ($2.4m). I’m also a big fan of the art style they go for. Andrew gives me Trampier vibes….one of my OG artist faves.
