X's Head of Product, @nikitabier, just announced:
- X (Twitter) has tightened its API policy for developers.
- From now on, apps that reward users with money/tokens for posting or replying on X (a model commonly known as InfoFi) are prohibited.
- Reason: These apps generate a lot of AI-generated spam content and reply spam, making the platform experience worse.
šÆ Specific actions:
- X has revoked the API access of such apps.
- When bots realize they are no longer being paid, spam will decrease ā the timeline will be cleaner.
š«£ And finally, we invite you to move elsewhere:
- If InfoFi project accounts are locked, X does not encourage continuing this model on X.
- Instead, they suggest teams move to Threads and Bluesky to continue their business.
