Even though I grew up in a metropolis and had heard tales of faraway places, the quest for a sense of belonging was made clear to me by my connection with Amir, a new student. Amir's family left everything behind in order to escape the fighting. I learned about resiliency and hope from Amir's positivity and the warmth of his family in spite of difficulties.
