Question for the mastering gurus out there - should I master to 12/13 LUFS for streaming platform purposes, or master to 8/9 LUFS and let streaming services compress or whatever else they do?

Yeah I'm thinking I master louder - that way all you guys on web3 get a louder mix when listening on /⁠tortoise ;)

But I tend to mix with a lot of headroom, so getting to 8 LUFS means I should just raise the gain on my initial mix

i have always wondered if compressing masters when delivering to users would technically count as a “derivative work” tbh

streaming services only need compress/limit to raise average loudness

if it's louder than their target they'll just lower the gain
