The new US National Security Strategy has shocked Europe and is changing the course of history — WSJ
China and Russia are no longer mentioned as strategic adversaries, while the harshest and toughest statements are directed at European countries.
Experts polled by WSJ call the document a "real blow to European capitals" and the "mother of all alarm signals for Europe."
In the 30-page document, European countries are portrayed as willful, declining powers that have ceded their sovereignty to the EU and are led by governments suppressing democracy and silencing those seeking a more nationalist, right-wing turn. The report concludes that the European continent may become too weak to remain a "reliable ally" for the US.
The US positions itself more as an arbiter between Europe and Russia, rather than as Europe's ally standing against Russia.
