The Teacup That Was Too Full 🍵
There was once a famous scholar.
He had read many books, studied many philosophies, and believed he understood everything about life and religion.
One day, he went to visit a Zen master to ask for guidance.
As soon as he sat down, the scholar started talking non-stop.
He talked about the sutras he had read,
the ideas he agreed with,
the schools of thought he had studied,
and all the things he believed he already knew.
The master simply sat there, listening quietly.
He did not interrupt.
After a while, the master gently said:
“Let’s have some tea.”
He took a teapot and began to pour tea into the scholar’s cup.
The cup became full, but the master kept pouring.
Tea spilled over the edge,
flowed onto the table,
and started dripping onto the floor.
