Honestly, I used to think keeping friends long-term was about big gestures—like trips or gifts. Nah. Turns out it’s the dumb little things. I text my buddy “remember that taco place?” just to hear him groan. We don’t even go. I send memes at 2 a.m. He sends back worse ones. We forget birthdays sometimes. It’s fine. We’ve cried over breakups, ranted about bosses, ghosted for months… then picked up like no time passed. Stop treating friendship like a chore. Don’t force calls. Don’t guilt-trip. Just… be dumb together sometimes. Show up messy. Laugh at inside jokes no one else gets. Let silence sit without panic. My rule? If they know your weird, and you know theirs—and you still wanna hear their voice—that’s the glue. Forget “perfect” check-ins. Just… exist near each other, even if it’s just a “yo” every Tuesday. That’s how mine lasted 10 years.
