Happy Kronia! 🏺🌾 I am a Hellenist, which means I worship and honor the ancient Greek gods. Kronia was an Ancient Greek festival celebrated in honor of Kronos, the Titan and father of Zeus. Although Kronos is famously known in mythology for swallowing his children, he was also associated with the Golden Age, a mythical time of peace and abundance. Kronia was celebrated on the 12th day of Hekatombaion, which falls around July/August in our modern calendar. The celebrations included feasting, games, entertainment, and offerings to Kronos. One of the most interesting things about Kronia was the temporary suspension of normal social hierarchies. Enslaved people were able to participate in the festivities alongside their owners, reflecting the festival’s connection to the idealized equality of the Golden Age.
