Stone Crushers is one of the most well-known paintings by French artist Gustave Courbet, an iconoclastic realist painter who challenged traditional artistic conventions. The painting depicts two men breaking stones on the side of the road and is believed to be a commentary on the plight of the working class in 19th century France.
