This is among the earliest known depictions of Stonehenge, and the first to be sketched directly at the site. It was created by Lucas de Heere, a Flemish Protestant exile who lived in England between 1567 and 1576. The watercolor appears in his guidebook to Britain, Corte Beschryvinghe van England, Scotland, ende Irland.
