The more headlines I read like this, the more I feel justified in my “contrarian” decision to drop out in 2021 and double down on my side-project / hackathon experience as a signal for employability. University-level computer science programs in particular have become so woefully outdated, under-resourced and downright extortive compared to what you can find for free online. I think the very premise of higher education needs to be entirely rethought.

Couldn't agree more, but I would also add: the simultaneousness of the AI age and the Big Tech enshittification process together means that the "self-taught solo tech entrepreneur" path is now both more feasible and more appealing than the career path described in the quote cast.
