Chapter Six | Behaviors that help us understand people
Let’s practice creating a sense of worth
“I only know this: with every person I killed, I felt I moved further away from my own self”
Captain Miller, Saving Private Ryan
Killing people is not only done by holding a weapon or dropping bombs on them.
It is not only in war or through murder. Sometimes we slowly erase people when we take away their sense of being loved and valued, that person begins to move toward destroying all their good feelings.
When we damage someone’s sense of self-worth, they gradually start to doubt themselves, stop loving themselves and no longer show themselves compassion, dissolving into inner doubt and self-blame.
The feeling of being valued is a strange one and even stranger is when, unconsciously, with a resentment whose origin we don’t even know, we do this to the people we love the most.
Let’s take care of each other and be kinder to one another✨
