Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, David Solomon called bitcoin an interesting speculative asset. At the same time, the blockchain technology on which bitcoin operates is of great interest to researchers from Goldman Sachs. The bank is exploring how blockchain can improve the efficiency of payments and settlements, despite regulatory challenges. Solomon explained that now, due to the uncertainty of cryptocurrency regulation, it is difficult for banks to directly invest in bitcoin. At the same time, the interest of large, institutional clients of the bank in cryptocurrencies is growing. The head of Goldman Sachs hopes that in the near future, financial regulators will change their agenda for overseeing digital assets. "Banks face many obstacles that prevent them from actively interacting with bitcoin. We can't own it, we can't be a principal, we can't be involved in bitcoin at all," Solomon protested.
