Bitcoin Pizza Day!
15 years ago, programmer Laszlo Hanyecz bought two Papa John’s pizzas for 10,000 BTC.
On the BitcoinTalk forum, he asked to exchange 10,000 BTC for two pizzas. Some users suggested he just sell the BTC (which was worth $41 at the time) and order the pizza himself. But he refused — it was a matter of principle.
And on May 22, 2010, he confirmed that the deal had gone through.
Today, those 10,000 BTC are worth over $1.1 billion. This became the first recorded real-world use of Bitcoin in history.
Since then, May 22 has been celebrated as Bitcoin Pizza Day — a holiday for early crypto enthusiasts and a reminder: even pizza can end up being overpriced.
