In the 17th century, a moral epidemic began in Rome. Pope Innocent X was concerned about the loosening of spiritual bonds. He issued a decree to cover the shame of the statues. With female sculptures everything was simple - they had fig leaves attached to their genitals. And the Pope ordered the male statues to repel everything protruding. Hammer and chisel. So that nothing bulges. The broken off members were carefully collected and displayed to the Pope.
