Finished "the art of doing science and engineering" recently. Hamming stuffed a lot of good insights in this book, but hidden behind anecdotes and not explicitly stated. Thinking about writing a book review to distill what I got out of reading it

Interested in ZK, FHE, PUFs, hardware, system design, ai safety, and smart contact security.

I agree that it was a little tough to get through. One of my main criticisms is that he gives a bunch of equations in the book but does not adequately explain them. They make sense if you're already familiar with the math, but for me that was true for like half of them

But def walked away still glad I worked through it

I made a pledge to never buy anecdotal books again. Of course I bought it without checking… 
I guess I will try reading it now…

Yeah it's not my favourite style. But I do think that having the reader actually have to do the work to figure out the principles being expressed is great for learning. It just would have been nice to know that's the thing I should be doing from the start instead of about a third of the way through.
