agree with @juli volume is not something I always look at, it's an additional category. first alpha, meme, community etc. 

and yeah, it can be manipulated easily.

But ask someone who is more successful in trades))

When volume trends down after going up parabolically, it might be a very good time to derisk (I.e. you can hold all the way up to the top).

TLDR: A coin can launch cheap, even stay there for a while but should achieve a couple of mio in trade volume and trend up to become an outlier winner. Right now winners shoot up fast and volume (trend) is hard to grasp within hours. So, it’s one indicator that there are bigger traders, investors interested in a coin (good) but they might very well churn. Gotta check more stuff.

Some min volume is good to see but for new tokens it’s a lot of fake volume. Hence, better watch the trend development. 

Above a threshold, higher doesn’t equate to better, rather look for absurd volume (overhyped) vs mcap to derisk.
