The onchain music journey has been far from simple
We tried a ton of different experiments this year and started launching songcoins about half way through
My biggest takeaway is that people outside of crypto don't care about trading nearly as much as people in crypto do
We paid out $350k to artists this year which is ~100M Spotify streams by compairson
But where I get hung up is that the impact this has falls short beyond putting extra money in artists pockets. I'm super grateful for this - but the only way we truly win is going beyond and impacting the metrics that matter most
That's why we started a traditional record label (first release was last week) and built a clipping app to pay fans for sharing videos from shows.
It's less "crypto" than it was before, but oddly feels closer to solving real problems which feels net positive as a whole.
Sharing this perspective in the spirit of seeing many other founders on here navigate the same challenges and optimistic we'll make it out the other side!
